Julie & Julia vs. Photography

What an interesting title to the start of this post.

Sometimes I suprise myself with what I come up with too. I have seen the movie a couple of times. Let me say that I am no cook. I cook so I can eat and I change it up 'cuz I don't have a chef in my house plus who doesn't like variety. The magic of t.v. unfortunately insprires me on occasion to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. Even my oldest sister has been suprised, because I called about some minor thing a regular cook would know, to know if I'm doing it right even with a recipe. I mention all of this because I am in a family where a few people are AWESOME cooks.

I realized that so many people understand photography a little more when I put it in cooking terms. I never thought my brain would connect the two. Yes, you can photograph food. I am discovering that when I refer an issue about photography to cooking I am surpised at how well its understood. Example: Photoshop is amazing software. Photography is a medium everyone uses. If you treat photoshop like a spice to your images to improve it vs. "dumping all the salt" in you get different results. Many people want fixes and adjustments in their pictures. If you use a few options "a little dash of this and a dash of that" it can transform some acne into a clear face.
I have learned pictures without photoshop are fine, maybe not liked but fine.We are our own worst critic especially when it's our face we are looking at. If you can get the pictures looking great with out photoshop EVEN better. That way if you want to "play" in photoshop its a bonus not a requirement.
